Your first visit
Your first physiotherapy appointment in Winnipeg: what to expect
Your first physiotherapy visit starts with understanding what is troubling you and what you want to get back to doing. You do not need to know the name of your injury before you book.
How can I prepare?
Think about the activities that have become difficult. Getting out of a chair, carrying groceries or completing a work shift can be more useful examples than simply saying that movement hurts. Write down when the problem began, what changes it and any questions you want to ask.
Wear clothing that lets you move comfortably and allows the affected area to be assessed. Bring relevant insurance or claim details, and ask the clinic what paperwork is needed when you book.
What happens during the assessment?
A physiotherapist asks about your symptoms and health history, examines relevant movement and discusses possible next steps. At St. James Rehab, the assessment informs an individual treatment plan. You can ask what a test involves and tell your therapist if you are uncomfortable.
What should I ask before I leave?
Ask what you are working towards, what to do between visits and how progress will be checked. If you are given exercises, make sure you understand the instructions and who to contact if you need clarification. Recovery plans vary; a fixed number of visits is not right for everyone.
Where is St. James Rehab?
The clinic is at 1601 Silver Avenue, Suite A, in Winnipeg’s St. James and Polo Park area. Call to confirm appointment availability and current hours before travelling.
